It's no secret that airlines don't have customer service first in their minds. But even with this being the case, many people are shocked to hear that airlines routinely book more passengers than can fit on flights. Especially during busy seasons, they'll book as many as 10-20 more passengers than can fit on the plane. So, if you arrive to the airport and find that there are no more seats available (a surprisingly common occurrence), this is probably what happened. Of course, the airline employee will probably try to put it in nice terms, but in reality you've been the victim of corner-cutting practices.

But, if you are bumped from a flight, there are FAA regulations governing what airlines have to do. You are within your right to demand that they do these things, and if they don't, this gives you leverage. That's why it always helps to know the rules.

1. Announcements: First, before bumping anyone, airline employees must go on the intercom and ask waiting passengers if there are any volunteers to be bumped. In many cases, there are a few passengers who don't mind being bumped, and this helps the airline to clear seats without seriously inconveniencing anyone.

2. What you're owed: Based on the flight that you were originally booked on, what time were you supposed to land at your destination? If your new flight gets you to your destination within two hours (before or after) of this time, then the airline must give you a one-way ticket of up to 0 in value.

However, if your new flight gets you to your destination in over two hours before or after your original landing time, they have to pay up to 0 for your new ticket. You know what this means, right? 0 is often enough for a first-class ticket. So if you get bumped, being armed with this information can earn you a real smooth ride (when you actually get a flight).

3. Accommodations: Unfortunately, if you're bumped because of weather, and the next flight isn't until the next day, airlines do not have to pay for you to stay in a hotel room.

However, if you are nice and don't make a scene, airline employees are often understanding. If you talk to the right person in the terminal, you may be able to get them to swing something for you at one of the local hotels. In any case, it can't hurt to plead your case (in a polite manner). Just don't count on it, because there are usually lots of passengers in these situations, and accommodating everyone would be pricey.

However, here's the thing: If the flight is delayed because of something that the airline did, you are entitled to accommodations within reason. So, if you can, try to get to the bottom of what's going on with your delayed flight. For example, it might be because a pilot or crew member didn't show up, or any number of other things. In this case, they have to take care of you.

You Do! Lithium screwdrivers have only been out for a couple of years but you now see them all over. With the introduction of lithium battery technology, these small but powerful tools are becoming a must have for many tradesman and hobbyists alike.

Take for instance an electrician or low voltage contractor. These techs not only drill and install but a good portion of their job each day is loosening and tightening screws for their install work. Think how many faceplate screws, emt connectors and light fixtures an electrician tightens each day. A lithium screwdriver is the perfect tool not only to speed up his day but also reduce possible wrist problems after a few years.

Think about an cabinet installer. Any given day he installs hinges, knobs and slide. Most of these are installed with small number six screws. You just don't need the 18 volt Makita to set these small screws. Most of these types of fastenings are done both in tight corners and on finished product. You need something small and light to get into these spots and not damage the finished product. A lithium screwdriver fit's the bill. Don't rush out and by the cheapest lithium screwdriver you can find, think about what you are going to do with it. If you are a contractor or assembly worker who is going to use it day in and day out, the cheaper units just aren't going to cut it for you. If you are a home owner who wants to have it on hand, just in case, a top of the line tool may be unnecessary . To answer the question at the start, who needs a lithium screwdriver? You do!

Is there anything worse than a guest to come in and immediately say, "Oh, you have a cat" And the cat is nowhere to be seen? Oops. This is a good sign that you can not keep the litter box as clean as possible.

In my work as a professional organizer, organizing litter is often the first thing that the love for my cat to love their customers conducted. In my 25 years I have cats, I have everything that tries to accomplish the task of facilitating the litter box clean smell. I amproud to say that today I have 3 gorgeous Maine Coone cats (you can see pictures on my blog) and guests in my home are always SURPRISED when they see the cats. That's because they can't smell them!

Here are seven organizing tips to keep your cat's litter box neat, clean & fresh.

NEVER put the litter box in your own bathroom unless you absolutely have to! The litter gets everywhere and it stinks. If you have to keep it there, get a fully enclosed litter box with an opening for the cat to walk through. They will track litter outside the box though. So that leads to my next tip.   The best place place to keep the litter box is in a small closet with cleaning supplies. Just make sure to keep the door cracked open. I recommend keeping a long item such as shelf paper on one of the shelves so the door can't be accidentally closed. If the area is carpeted, line it with plastic or vinyl carpet liner. Or better yet, remove the carpet if you can. Be sure to get a litter box that has high walls and a dome or cover. The Booda Clean Step Dome Litter Box works great and really does help cut down on the litter tracking.   Every time you scoop the litter, use a handheld vacuum to clean the area around the box. Store the vacuum cleaner on a shelf or hang it on a wall in the closet. My favorite vacuums are the Black and Decker ones that use the same rechargeable batteries as all the other B&D tools. We keep an extra set of batteries and charger by each vacuum so we never run out of power.   Use a great litter. The best litter I've found in 26 years of living with cats is Tidy Cats with Crystal Blend Scoopable litter and now I use the new Tidy Cats "Small Spaces" litter mixed in. Even with 3 cats, it keeps odors under control. Make sure to fill your box half full with litter. One of the most common mistakes I see is too little litter in the box. Cat's like a very clean box, if there isn't enough litter, they may go outside the box. And if they use the box without enough litter, it will stink horribly! Remember to scoop often. Make that job easier by keeping a large scooper hanging near the box, and plastic grocery bag holder attached to the inside door. Keep it stuffed with lots of grocery bags. Every day, scoop the pet waste into a bag, double bag it, tie it up airtight and put it in the trash. Keep a roll of paper towels near wherever the litter box is. If it's in a closet, use a paper towel holder that screws into the door and hang the paper towels on the inside of the door. Also keep a spray cleaner handy. Empty the box completely once a month. Dump the litter into one of your handy grocery bags. Use your paper towels or a disposable pop-up cleaning product such as Clorox Wipes handy to clean the litter box and the surrounding floor. When you are done, throw the towels or wipes in with the litter, tie the bag up tight and dump it in the trash!There you have it. A nicely organized litter box area. So what's keeping you? Avoid wall to wall carpeting. Hardwood, tile, and even linoleum floors are MUCH easier to keep clean and odor-free. Use area rugs that can easily be replaced every few years. Use Woolite for Pets Carpet and Upholstery cleaner to spot clean rugs and furniture when you sweetie has an accident or vomits. It not only leaves the carpet and sofa fresh smelling, it always gets out ALL the stain. Use Febreeze regularly to keep fabrics such as throw pillows, area rugs and curtains fresher smelling. When buying furniture, curtains and clothing, avoid microfibers and other fabrics that are magnets for pet hair. When I want to clean the sofa of pet hair, all I need to do is put on a pair of microfiber pants. I sit on the sofa for a few minutes, stand up, and I look like a cat! Leather or leatherette are great. Twill, denim, cotton and rayons are pretty easy to get pet hair off of. Chenille is not. Get several great pet hair brushes. Keep one in a box or drawer in any room that has lots of fabric, like the bedroom and living room. We use Majik Brushes. We brush the furniture and dining room chairs every few days or as needed. Plus, by having one near the front door, we can always brush ourselves (and our guests who may have become pet hair magnets) before leaving the house! Get at least one or two hand held vacuums. Keep them handy wherever pet fur accumulates the most. If possible, get a HEPA-rated vacuum. Smaller vacuums are great for quick touch ups when you have hardwood floors. All the pet hair that travels to the corners comes right up! We also keep a hand held in our cleaning supply closet where the litter box lives to clean up the litter the cats track out of the box. My favorite vacuums are the Black and Decker ones that use the same rechargeable batteries as all the other B&D tools. We keep an extra set of batteries and charger by each vacuum so we never run out of power. For pet food, the clear SNAPWARE® containers (we got ours at Target) are awesome. They are easy to open, easy to fill AND easy to keep a scoop inside. Whatever you do, don't buy a container without testing if first to see how it opens and closes. So many of them are complicated and difficult to open. At least make sure you keep the receipt just in case you don't find it easy to use. For dogs, keep paper towels, pop-up wipes, and pooper scooper bags near the door where you exit to walk the dog. You can even use plastic grocery bags as pooper scoopers. If you have a little hallway with a table near your exit, you can keep a the dog's leashes, collars, paper towels, bags, etc. in a nice decorative basket or box Get dogs groomed professionally as needed to keep them and your home smelling better. Here's a tip from a friend of mine with 3 large dogs: use easy to remove and wash slipcovers for all furniture and keep special dog blankets anywhere the dogs are allowed to nap.
